For anyone else having trouble with the finger stretch in the opening bit -

Try using only your ring and pinky fingers on the 4th and 5th frets respectively, and then release the 4th fret (ring finger) to press the 2nd fret (same string) with your index finger. Holding the chord start to finish just doesn't work for me, but this does! hope it helps someone
