Using a Vintage Flip Phone in 2023 - is it Possible?

Hey, sorry about all the issues that this video had, mainly with the audio but also with loss in footage, I would have re-filmed some stuff but the phone ended up breaking--figures. Also, for anyone confused, I filmed most of this in November of 2022 and then edited the rest of it recently.

So underrated! Glad to see people taking advantage of the 2G GSM that remains; quite a shame that I have no 2G service where I am. The Motorola V235 is also a very cool phone.

everyone SHOULD use old cellphones from the late 90s and early 2000s. then maybe t-mobile wont shut off gsm since everyone refuses to use smartphones...i personally think smartphones are brainwashing, and it makes me sick when i see people using them. SO pissed that gsm is going away in april. i will NOT be getting a smartphone, , just going to have to live off my copper t-mobile...

Down here in Africa 2g is still very well maintained and will probably last years to come

I'm glad you discussed the "disconnecting" thing that T-Mobile likes to do to non VoLTE phones. A lot of people don't mention this issue and I personally think it's very important that people know about it. It seems to be based on the age of the account. I have a Red Pocket account from February 2020 which doesn't have this issue. I can swap my sim into amy 2G phone and it will don be cut off by T-Mobile. I even had to get a new sim card in November because I lost my old one and it' still fine. I'd like to add that certain models of phone tend not to disconnect, such as phones made before 2000. My Motorola Select 2000, Ericsson CF388, Ericsson CH318, Bosch 718 World, and Nokia 6190 never disconnect. Most monochrome Nokias seem immune to disconnecting as well. My 3390b and 6340i don't disconnect either.

Cheers to this mad lad who got an OG flip phone to actually work in 2023. Cheers to you! All we can do from here is modern flip phones and try to flash a custom rom on it.

Great video! Quite underrated, I didn’t know I can use some 2G flips after T-Mobile told me at the store in 2016 that they no longer support these, ended up getting mint and I usually have full bars unless I’m in an area with a bunch of buildings, thank you for the videos and keep the content going I believe you will grow! Liked and subscribed!

All three rogers chatr, fido are all the same. I'm with chatr on roger s network, using old 2G GSm and 3G hspa plus. 3G for rogers will shutdown on Dec 31 2025, shutdown date is planned for 2G but hasn't been announced yet.

I had a Motorola v220 that you showed just before the one you were using . Those were much better times . I had better focus and concentration . Without being able to have a computer or tablet and everything being online it makes it difficult not to use a smartphone. It’s frustrating as I’d love to go without it

i got cheap unlocked motorola razr OG from local market, east eu has 2g used for other reasons for all 3 operator towers as well so it will still work! If i were to put my modern sim card with appropriate card adapter frame in it i could just start using it, it even came with own 1 gb sd card for music to listen from it, if the battery is not holding good we also have excellent website based store that sells batteries for EVERY old "dumb" phone out there! if i want to take some "vintage" pictures/videos with its crappy camera, usb micro B gives access to it easily!

I just found a jackpot of 1980s phones. Gigantic bricks with big antennas. I really want to use one. The hipsters would go crazy I know it haha. But I suppose they're useless junk now.

I don't recommend using flip phones as of 2023. If you are involved in a car accident and call the police, the officer will tell you to take out your smart phone and take a picture of the other person's insurance card and I.D. Also, some cities in the U.S. use E911, where they can find you with your smartphone's GPS, even if you don't know where you are when you call emergency services. I use my smartphone a lot for navigation. I also use my smartphone for translation, as I don't speak Chinese very well and I live in Beijing. However, flip phones can be useful if you are traveling abroad and worry about losing your phone.

Dunno if you remember me, (I used to be Peeblegums) but I've gotta say you've pleasantly surprised me with your video skills xD I really could imagine you consistently posting video essays in the future and gaining a following from it, this was well done. I used to pop in once every few months after noticing a video in my sub box even though we haven't talked at all, and it's very impressive how much you've improved in a short amount of time, I hope you continue pursuing video creation since I look forward to seeing what you'd make :D

You can get rid of some of the limitations by using a newer flip phone. They have better cameras and much better storage.

You mentioned in the video that a locked phone by sprint = t-mobile could eventually work. I have a Sanyo Sprint phone and I desperately wanna use it. I live in Germany and we still have 2G. What can I do now. Especially cause there’s no SIM card port. I’m very desperate atp.😢 Can someone please give me advice? Thank you very much.

Invest into a microphone pop filter that would remedy your audio issues.

I had thought about ditching my current modern phone for an older flip phone for like a month. Try to make some sacrifices and live simpler. Kinda sad that things have excelled so far that what was popular and efficient 20 years ago is now obsolete.
