I did this a bit differently, didnt even see this video until today.

What i did was run a seperate belt for iron ore and coal. Standard inserter for the ore and long hand inserter grabbing the coal. Then added enough spacing to eventually upgrade to steel furnaces. My problem was, I never gave myself enough room to expand past the initial 50 furnances, I built my production stuff way too close. Granted, my map was dense forest, so that was a hinderance.

By the time you are making advanced circuits for blue research packs, you need to have iron plate production where even red belts are being saturated. Ended up having to tie in 30 more steel furnances to help keep up with iron plate production.

are you sure you need the second splitter on coal it only has 1 belt out so its not doing anything
