Does Bar's Leaks Stop Leak Work

Are you wondering if Stop leak works? In this video I do a quick review of my experience using Bar's Leaks Stop leak. The bottle states this stop leak may be used on the engine, transmission or steering pump. My test was simple. I put a piece of cardboard below the leak for about 12 hours before adding stop leak. After adding the stop leak and driving 200 miles as the directions state, I placed another piece of cardboard below the leak. In the video I compare the size of the leaks to see the result.

This stuff works even if it buys you a year or two. I do agree it’s best to fix the problem mechanically but again this just buys you some time. I have a small leak and I don’t feel like shelling out hundreds to fix it right now

You may still have your leak but what you should have done is power wash the underside of your engine so you would know there is no residue from the old leak, good effort though ! well done.

2005 Dodge Ram 1500 345 magnum Daytona!!!! It literally took 10 min ..I only had to use half of it .. I used a turkeys baster to suck about 8 ounces of old fluid out and pour bars two part system to the cold fill line and it started working immediately!!!

Some of the stop leak products contain chemicals such as chlorine. This causes a temporary solution as it causes the seal to swell. Chlorine is also not good for the engine. Other products cause a more permanent solution by adding chemicals that cause the seals to soften. Valvoline high mileage engine oil (Which has one awards) and is API tested also contains additives which soften the engine seal. However as someone has mentioned below, if the seal has become brittle, there is nothing you can do. There are also Other high millage oils that contain the same additives.

I hope you let the Stop Leak fluid settle for 3 days or whatever miles it said befor you added more oil. If not then that may be why it still leaked almost as much.

so you think the stop leak just makes your oil burn up so you don't see it leaking?

I like the way that you did this test!
I wouldn't have thought of using cardboard like you did.
MUCH better than what I'm trying to do using a large drip pan.
My radiator is leaking.
I'm going to do the same kind of test that you did with my radiator leak using Bar's leaks Radiator Stop Leak Tablets.
Thank You for the well done and informative video!
BRAVO!!!!

ATP makes great stop leak products but different vehicles will vary on which stop leak will work the best.If seals are cracked you can slow the leak down but you can't usually stop the leak.just for info I had a 454 chevy used oil and smoked I tried synthetic oil in it oil consumption went way down and it virtually stopped smoking ! I told a friend about it so he switched his truck to synthetic it started using oil? all you can do is try.

well on second test maybe most the oil leaked out therefore less leakage on cardboard

a simple straightforward answer is even if is does stop the leak it doesn't fix the defective part so you are always at risk of it repeating ' secondly modern vehicles use thinner oil and are designed to run with less friction during normal operation temperatures you also have variable valve timing hydraulic lifters in many cars and finally cadillac converters " so in my opinion looking for a quick fix in a bottle may really only be adding to the number of potential nightmares in short even as a mechanic if i find a leak I just go ahead and fix it or park the vehicle up till I have time to do it properly

why do you want to clog up the entire engine?

Let me tell you what their wonderful products did to me. I simply wanted to stop a minor valve cover gasket leak, and it worked, but two weeks later, my engine blew. The oil pump failed because this bullshit garbage gummed up my oil, blocked drain holes, killed my pump and starved my crankshaft of oil while accelerating hard onto an expressway. I ended up spinning a rod bearing, getting stranded on the side of the road and now I’m stuck with towing and a $3500 repair bill for a new engine. I also used it to seal my heater core. Again, it worked, but then plugged the core and I was stuck with no heat What a load of shit. You have a leak? Go and fix it the honest way, or use Bar’s and ruin your vehicle entirely.
