All Chinese polearms fall under the category of Dadao, which literally means “big knife (大刀).” While the character dao is conventionally translated as “knife,” it may refer to any large blade that is curved. The character pu (朴) in Pudao can mean “simple” or “unadorned,” or even “sincere.” Today, Pudao refers to the generic polearm, which is a two-handed weapon consisting of a broad steel blade mounted on a wood or metal shaft.

Master Yanqing Ding has trained martial arts since childhood. He is a layman disciple of Shaolin Temple and has demonstrated for China’s President Hu Jintao, Premier Wen Jiabao and Russia’s leader Vladimir Putin. He is the head master of International Chi Institute in Alameda, California.

This is THE BEST Dao demonstration I've seen so far on YT. Very aggressive and battle-oriented, minus the prancing around of other, more sporty forms

The names of these moves are incredible. They seem to range between very literal (Turn Downward Chop) to metaphorical (Wild Horse Unbridled) to downright surreal (Capsize River, Reverse the Sea). Stuff like this keeps the "art" in "martial arts."

I rewatched this at x0.25 speed recently and realized that pretty much 80% of the moves are applicable in actual combat xD
Such a masterful display of techniques.

I would love to spar with this man using the English quarterstaff, His weapons skills are very highly developed.

Thank you. I've been looking for movements based for this kind of weapon. Earlier clips I've watched were just people randomly making pathetic swings. This was a brilliant demonstration.

Nice. As an oldster I did not need stirring music. Just the man and the art are so much more powerful a message. Liked and shared.

Pretty sure these forms are all conditioning drills not actual exact combat moves

這個刀的尺寸已經算得上是關刀了
非軟刀加上鋼柄 估計有3公斤以上? 還能耍得這麼快的師父第一次看到

I'm only Counting 24 Movements? Unless the Salutes at the Begining and end count as Movements in this case?
