I've been doing shadowing exercises on and off for the past few years to improve my English speaking but didn't find it to be very efficient. I used to follow all these tips when shadowing, but what I noticed was that I was always being stressed and tired of doing things consciously, so I changed tactics and stoped forcing myself to do the shadowing technique intentionally, instead I started using English as if it were my native language and whenever I came across a spectacular sentence I would shadow it for fun.

I'm using a music speed downer app to do this and it's great, you can change the speed without losing quality and also loop phrases until you get them 100% right.
