It is also used for testing various petrolium products and solvents.Somthing to do with polar and non-polar contaminants or compatibilities.
Ah the the "Aniline point", it is also used to check generall oil compatibility with elastomers.

Nice job, but if the PABA was made from aniline, the whole process has not so much sense. Of course, if just for an experiment and video ok, but in case would much more useful to find some waste or residue to convert into aniline. Have you thought any old rotten dyes or pigments ?

I’m not what aspect of your channel I cherish most, the fact that you mostly use easily obtained starting materials, or the general aesthetics and ambiance of your presentation! I do admit that more than one occasion I sat down at 7 am in front of my 65 inch television watching your videos while scarfing down an omelette, bacon and hash browns. I do learn plenty but sometimes I just watch for entertainment value

Cool! I needed aniline for something but I forget what.
It would be interesting if someone would make 2-chlorobenzalmalononitrile sometime. IMHO its not as unpleasant as OC and its got like a nice barbecue smell. Seems a little hard to not sigma-aldrich it the whole way though.

Are you thinking about doing the acetic anhydride synthesis using the sulfur chlorides method? I've shied away from that one because I know where to buy it and the smell from the sulfur chlorides is horrendous.
