I think that the difference between this and the regular radar cruise control is that you don't need to tap the gas when the car comes to a complete stop and resumes moving. Otherwise it appears to be identical.

In stop-and-go traffic, the car is slow to react as it's waiting for a sizeable gap to exist before moving. This is too much of a delay in metropolitans like NY; cars will take that opportunity to cut in front of you. Also, clicking Resume or pushing on the gas pedal is annoying if the vehicle is stopped for more than 3 secs to resume cruise control.

As you demonstrated, slow-moving traffic works adequately but leaves room for cars to cut in front of me.

Would love to have this feature on my next car. It would make the drive a lot less stressful on long road trips as well as the daily commute. Have heard of this feature but have been waiting for someone to explain precisely how it works. Thanks Jeff!

Drove rx from sf to La and back, if u get a rx, u must have this feature, I feels like someone drives for you in stop and go traffic very smooth, only Lexus have this not Toyota I think… so much better than any bmws out there

Is this the same as adaptive cruise control that just has stop and go function? I’ve owned the car since 2017. That did that when the car came to a complete stop and traffic it would just go when the car in front of it moves. That’s all this is. It’s a joke to pay $620, every three years for a subscription

Jeff, does the Regular Auto-Cruise work pretty much the same way?
I have a 2022 RAV4 Limited but I do not believe I have 'Traffic Jam Assist'.
Just Auto-Cruise. I have played with it a little and it slows down and speeds up at any speed.
I never seen it 'Stop' though like in a traffic jam.

I'm confused. What is different between this TJA and Adaptive Cruise Control. In other words how do you physically enable this vs ACC? What if you are in ACC and get into traffic, how does one switch modes or is it the exact same thing and the car just switches the mode?

Interesting option! Works like the RADAR cruise control. Does it have a minimum speed setting or other limiting conditions before having to deactivate?

I kinda have a love/hate relationship with the RADAR cruise control. Love it from a safety standpoint to keep the three second rule. (ALWAYS a good thing!) Hate it because driver's in the other lane routinely jump in front of you when you have space in front of you. THIS ISN'T Toyota's fault! ;)

I like it in my 2022 Rav4 Hybrid as it will follow and stop itself, not so much in my 2023 4Runner, it disengages below 25mph 😒
