Modern soldiers in the US are also taught to use their wounded companions first aid kit’s supplies as oppose to his own. I love these videos.

My Grandfather was a Stretcher Bearer with the British Army Medical Corps in WW1

During training (Sweden) we also have the "use the other soldiers bandage" and one dude asked "What if the guy doesn't have one?" and the officer teaching just pinched his nose and said "you use your own". Good times.
