My buddies and I have done pistols-only matches in the past, and learned a lot about the guns and what we liked or disliked about them. Also had a ton of fun doing it. Experimental modes is a great idea.

Tonk Royale is a great pedestal to having a Battlefield like Conquest mode. Snubs could be the jets. Cutlass Steel and other dropships could be the helicopters.

Will the maps have a bot mode? So we can try things in a not-so-competitive environment as well as see the AI when it's not constrained by the server tic rate? (edited for typo)

I'd really like them to drop AI into the MC FPS stuff. It'll allow them to better refine missions like the bunker mission's for PU.

Would absolutely love some ground/hover racing mode to capture that old school podracing/F-Zero feeling. A Mute City type map with hiverbikes only would be amazing

As much as I want to wait for server meshing before going back to playing the game regularly, this is huge. It's instant fun compared to the PU. And the experimental modes are I think crucial to have fun and diversity now.
