I'd always wondered why they'd fly near me as I walk from house to shed but never get aggressive. They're cool little guys that help keep that cicada noise down.

I usually see them around midsummer in NYC parks, and it’s actually fun and relaxing to sit and watch them 20-30 at a time chasing each other all the time around certain grassy areas, where they dig burrows in bare soil patches.

Their encumbered journey with a cicada in tow is interesting, they'll often climb to high spots to get a vantage point and basically base-jump to their nest. So if one starts climing your leg with a cicada, don't freak out, just lightly bump or shake them off. Swat and you might get stung. Don't swat stinging bugs.

I even flooded a tunnel to flush 1 out, for capture. That was before I knew what it was.
Def not the killer wasps. They also steal cicada's mid air from each other. so food aggression, but that's it.

And one thing they are not mentioning is these things are huge.You can hear them buzzing around I had hovering right in front of my face as if it was checking me out.

They are so mild mannered, they are just about domesticable. We actually fed them meat grease on our hands, at owr barbie.
They sit and lick the grease, as long as you put up with it.

I work in pest control and just did my first job for these guys. even tho I'm sure they won't sting, I put the bee suit on anyway 💀💀 they get so close to you and there's so many when there's a nest. also saw one bringing a cicada back to it's nest. Too bad i already treated it so he didn't have anywhere to go lol

i saw one flying at me from opposite end of yard while lounging out b ack. sittin next to a squash plant. i could HEAR IT. from 100 feet. thought it was a hummingbird. i was sittin there trimmin my toenails drinkin a beer... noped right the fucke out! it landed RIGHT NEXT to me on the squash plant

Fill their holes with sand or water and it’ll make them hella confused

Fill a 2-3liter soda bottle with water. Insert it int their hole. You catch several safely and effectively.
