SpaceX lands rocket at sea, makes history

SpaceX has finally landed its Falcon 9 rocket on a drone ship at sea, after launching the vehicle into space this afternoon. It's the first time the company has been able to pull off an ocean landing, after four previous attempts ended in failure. Today's success is a crucial milestone for SpaceX, as it shows the company can land its rockets both on solid ground and ocean.

This event was hands down one of the biggest moments in human history and it wasn't so much as a blip in mainstream media. An event like this is the first indication of our ability to begin interstellar colonization. You cannot fashion a rocket on another planet you land on, when you want to leave. Thank God for Elon Musk, his drive, innovations and absolutely relentless pursuit of "carrying the torch forward", as he puts it.

In the 50 s and 60s you'd see cartoon depictions of rockets landing in this manner and I'd think how unimaginative of them to show a cartoon rocket coming in plumb like that; it was so unlikely as to be stupid; now look at this! It's becoming routine...

My dad works for United Launch Alliance as a supply manager. Whenever SpaceX does something relatively important, he says everyone in his office knows how much cooler Elon Musk is than they are.
