The Most Instagrammable Hike in Sedona, Arizona

What is the most Instagrammable hike in Sedona, Arizona?

The Boynton Canyon Trail, otherwise known as the Subway Cave hike, is definitely popular on Instagram. Even if you don't know it as the Subway Cave, I'm sure you've seen pictures of people here, framed by red rock in what looks like it could be a subway tube. Some of the most popular feature yoga poses, tapping into Sedona's New Age vibes.

The Boynton Canyon Trail is about three miles in length, but reaching the Subway Cave won't require hiking quite that far. And as a bonus, there is a lovely scenic vista quite close to the trailhead, where you can get some great photos without quite as much company as you'll likely have in the cave.

If you want to get a parking spot, I suggest getting to the trailhead early. You'll also need to pay for a Red Rocks Pass or an America the Beautiful Pass to park at the trailhead, which is shared by the Boynton Canyon Trail and the Deadman Pass Trail.

Have you hiked the Boynton Canyon Trail and visited the Subway Cave? What was your experience like? Let me know in the comments section!

Wow, it's a super busy area. Glad you got a spot to park there. At least you weren't crowded out. That is an impressive climb, friend! Gorgeous upper views! Oh wow, a crowd still headed to the cave. That resort is right there. 😒 The subway cave was worth the crowd... Very impressive! Beautiful footage! 😁👊

Already on my list whenever I make it to Sedona! Looks like there is a lot to explore away from the crowds too. Rock on!

Pretty popular spot for sure! Every one early to beat the heat of later in the day and later in the season too I bet. Quite the awesome area though! Wonderful!

Beautiful hike! Not climbing something you can’t get down from seems like solid advice. We had a pair of bear cubs climb a tree here the year before last who learned that lesson the hard way. Lots of panicked squealing as they waited for Mom to come to the rescue!

Awesome hike with amazing rock formations and vista views. Yep, getting down is often harder than going up. You caught up to people near the cave. Great hike!

It’s lovely in the morning light! You seem to have avoided the crowded parts of the trail. Really nice to see the trail, rock formations and hear about the trees too. The rocks sure do look like they could get slippery. Super cool that there are old dwellings there too. Great place to explore! 👌👍👍☀☀- Jen

I love the whole area you showed here. All the red rock and spires are so beautiful. I never heard of the subway cave before. I see why everyone would want to hang out there. Very nice. 👍

What an awesome trail. Makes sense what it is so popular on Instagram. Really neat looking rock formation and the end. Also, super neat that you can explore that cliff dwelling. I need to go back to Sedona.

What a stunning landscape. Some sections looked extremely dangerous! Great job documenting your hike... though I did miss Raven. 😊 Cheers from Canada. 👍

I wonder how it would be around the end of February, early March. I have to admit, I want to see it. I want that IG picture.😅
Take care!
