Thanks for the Q&A. Again, this is a highlight this week. I love to hear the differences between rulebook editing and writing 🙂

1:42:16 Becoming “upset” at something has replaced actual accomplishment.

In other words, becoming angry about something is, more and more, being regarded as a type of accomplishment.

Magic, you dont have to really produce or accomplish something… simply become angry about something makes you a “caring” person.

Chonkiest in my collection is the Obelisk in Tekhenu - love that game too!

I mean the giant silly Cthulhu statue from Cthulhu: Death Must Die is objectively the chonkiest, but the minis and sound effect bases from Dwellings of Eldervale are pretty chonky.

As a Dungeon Crawler we used to enjoy Sorcerer's Cave back in the 1980's .... though you needed a very big floor to play it on!

Some cards of may games are warping too here in northern germany. Eg the cards from all the shem philips games and some other. Its very difficult to stack them accurately. Ah yes, Dune Imperium Cards and Arnak too.

Chunkiest component I have is the coffee/teacup from Ark Nova. It even does not look like cuppa.

For chunky components, I'd go with the spirit tokens and first player token in Buru. They are unnecessarily chunky. 😅

Far and away the chonkiest component in my game collection is the tower from Return to Dark Tower. Same was true for my copy of the original DT. If that doesn't count, I'd guess it would be any of the Great Old One miniatures from the Cthulhu: DMD series. Special honor goes to the handmade, bloodwood + purpleheart dice tower my wife made in her woodworking shop.

First of all. Team Magic Knight ❤.

I play a game if I like it and I played it a second and third time. I might sleeve cards and if the insert sucks like seti. I print my own. I own a printer so making the insert is dead cheap.

But I agree with you. You need to justify it. Same for me with deluxe components for games. I also don't need 100 minis in a game. I can totally live with a standee.

Not sure if you would play Trains again?! Blasphemy! Ahahah

Talking about iconography, I would go even more back: race for the galaxy. Race is famously known for having most of its information - all of it if you have earlier editions - in icons on the cards. It is a lot of front load information when you are trying to learn the game. Once you pass that step, things actually click really well and make sense. It is a very good system, but hard to start

… Also look FWD to listening to the One Man Clapping podcast mentioned where Paul is interviewed

Pretty much all the components in the Color Monster board game from Devir are impressively chonky.

I should play some game, at some point, with you Paul. I also (mostly) only play turn base games on bga. Very few times I am live playing them, but it is hard to make a schedule to play live games.

Concerning the 2024 games: I have a friend who is just like that, but he has been like that for the last 3/4 years. Every year is meh, with not interesting games coming out, or games that are just re-do's of others - that is his main complaint from this year. I seriously see a point but disagree so much with him

Oof, chunkiest component for me is the first player token for Suburbia Collector's Edition. An absolutely huge chunky piece of plastic that serves no purpose.
