If you encounter an issue when replacing your PT cruiser tie rod where your tool can’t grip onto the sides, you might have this shitty rounded design where it is literally impossible to take off without this one cheap tool from Autozone: "Inner Tie Rod Tool" from OEM TOOLS

Thank you for all of the great comments! At the time of making this, I saw exactly 0 videos regarding this issue and was completely clueless. Although I can see room for improving the quality of this video, I'm glad it helped others out in any capacity. Cheers!

Your choice words for that tie rod design explains exactly how I feel! And I’m in a parking lot with 100 degree weather. To Autozone I go, thank you so much!

omg. i wish i would have known about this.

i just replaced the inner and outer tie rods on my 1975 mustang saturday and mine were round and i was clueless. i ended up using a pipe wrench because nothing else would grab on. i might buy one of these now in case i ever need it. the new tie rods were normal.

you sir have gotten a like. i was curious how to remove them and i saw your video. very straight forward. thank you

Thank you so much for this video if it wasn’t for you I would still be fighting that tie rod. 1999 Dodge Durango 4x4. Autozone specialty tool wouldn’t do it so I grabbed this and worked in seconds. Previous owner had tie rods like those and nothing could get it. Again huge thanks.

Clever solution. Those flat spots are called ‘flats’ by the way. Thanks for sharing.

Iam working on inner tie rods for 98 sentra, i bought ACdelco and they are round. I guess I can use this tool and go agains oem repair manual but just curious why this design exists vs square except less machining to reduce cost??
