So what is a pivot table?

Well, it’s a tool in Excel to summarise data. It’s a table where data is summarised neatly. You take this boring data and you convert it into a great summarised format.

Without pivot tables, life would be boring and not so easy. You would have to add up sections of data one by one manually and then produce the summary yourself.

If data that the pivot table relies on changes, Excel isn’t clever enough to update for you when you get back to the table. You have to manually do the update yourself by clicking on the refresh button.

Update the data in the title bar and click on pivot table tools button, and then under the data area, click in the middle of the refresh button.
