Over the next few days I have the Phoenix up on the lift. Time to shoot videos! In this episode I perform a quick underbody inspection of this 2009 Saab 9-5 Griffin 2.3t Biopower. Also, I try to fix some exhaust issues by replacing the rubber exhaust hangers.

Exhaust clip part number 92152112.

Drop your side skirts every other year to check for rust as it starts around the doglegs and at the jack points. Ask me how I know! I'll be welding new metal in next month. Dropping the side skirts is quite easy. Takes maybe 10 minutes a side and good preventative maintenance. Consider using POR-15 rust paint as well along with their top-coat as POR-15 by itself is sensitive to UV and will break down.

Thanks for all the great videos! I am a new (old) Saab owner! Mine is pretty cherry but still has 250, 000 miles so I need all the DIY I can get

The reason for the exhaust hanging is due to the rear driver side hanger on the muffler being bent. This usually happens on that corner of the muffler as the salt and dirt from the roar hit it directly by the rear wheel. But if it has come to this point, I would strongly recommend replacing the rear muffler as it can fall of while driving. Been there, done that on both my 2001 9-5 and my 2006 9-5.
BTW that hanger also likes to break completely of the muffler, causing an exhaust leak.

I can't tell about the rest of your exhaust, but the muffler looks like it's nearing the end of its service life. Just replace the muffler with a smaller one that doesn't bump no matter how much the exhaust moves :) Man, that stock muffler is gigantic!

" Now just remove the rubber" that's what she said, LOL LOL, Jono has a sense of humor,

The rear muffler on my 9-5 MY07 is also getting quite crusty, but I guess it's not leaking yet since the car passed inspection last week :)

Old video I know, but you should loosen the exhaust from the front section and then turn the rear section inc backbox slightly clockwise as it has not been istalled right at some stage. It will then be in the middle of the cutout where you want it to be, also use some soapy water solution when putting on rubbers / clips etc powerflex ? OE always IMO.

might can wrap the hanger with some type of rubber, so when it does hit the car the impact is cushioned....for a temporary fix while you hunt down what has the exhaust sitting crooked.

Bra video! Intressant!

About the underside of the car.. I would mask of the engine and so on and sand/sandblast the rusty parts and then either spraypaint or some kind of underbody treatment. Though I don't know that getting it professionally done would cost, maybe it's worth it :)

Have the same problem with the exhaust back box outer shell rotting away but it has been like that for a long time on my 06 saab Linear Sport. Didn't give any problems yet. Touch wood !!!

I've had a Starla muffler hang funny like that. The left side also wanted to go in the middle slot on the hanger. People should test fit and be prepared to bend the hanger on the left side with some MAPP gas.

Alright Tronic, I would say do the underbody yourself! Unless you are stripped for time and have money in the bank! (Opposite of me). I would love to see a video of you doing this :)

You should be checking your all your ball joints. Since the only right way to check for free play is to have both sides off the ground

How much they ask for Krown treatment in Sweden? Here in Estonia it's around 170€.
