In this video I replace the crappy aftermarket Saab badge with a genuine Saab part and the difference is enormous.

Swedish: Så här byter man Saab-märket (emblemet) på motorhuven på en Saab 9-5.

I bought a 2003 saab 9-5 wagon from a guy back in February. It looks like he put an aftermarket black and grey badge that has chipped paint that is almost completely gone. I ordered an original emblem that arrives this Thursday. Im so excited as this is my first car, and i want to make it look new again 😊. Thanks for the informational video!

Actually, in my experience (16 years at a Saab dealership), I changed hundreds of badges, and truthfully, although the new replacement OE badges look decal part often peals off in a few short years. Especially the front one which faces the wind and weather. I think the parts quality of the replacement OE badges dropped in the later years. (and way over-priced) Funny experience was a customer who thought someone had stolen the badge, but actually the badge was still there and the colored decal part had pealed off.

Last time I changed it I sprayed the new badge with clearcoat for extra protection before I put it on.

Saab was giving away free badges about 2 years ago to help everyone re-badge their cars. I got 2 in the mail and I live in the U.S. It was that Original Club that your were taking about Trionic.

Curious results.... I bought a cheap Badge from Portugal / Ebay and 12 yrs later it still looked good.
Yet a Genuine Saab badge.. Which did look better made/had a slightly better image.. Lived a whole year before the blue began to flake off.
Just saying

I have the same experience. Now original badges. The idea to save 5€ was a mistake. Buy cheap, buy twice. ;-)

Done this recently on my Saab 93 .
Got black badges front and rear instead of blue.
Black wheel centre caps too .
Hope the badges last the distance, wouldn't want to be changing them too often.
Good video by the way, I used strong nylon thread.

I have this Saab in 9-5 wagon. Such a pretty car.

But wait... The original badges are often completely thrashed on used Saabs. The new one you show here looks great, but the longevity perhaps isn't that great with these ones, either?

I paid £8.99 for an after-market one and the emblem was so far out of line with the lugs I got my money back and ordered an OE one instead. Next item to buy? Dental floss. Great vid.

It seems like the worst thing for these badges (no matter OE or not) is stuff used in winter for road cleaning. Just one trip through Poland made mine look like that. Then I used some gel type stickers - still holds after 2 years.

Awesome video man! I have to do this on my 9-3 II for the front and back.. The originale on the trunk is going bad on a lot off 9-3´s. Maybe it is the weather here in Norway, with the salt?

My local Saab shop just puts stickers on top of the emblem. Those badges will sadly eventually have the paint come off again.

It would be nice to have link to genuine SAAB badges

Just like bad post 2002 plastic headlights, these Chinese badges can be polished to be clear again. (with toothpaste etc etc)
A genuine badge cost me 10 times as much once and it delaminated after only a couple of years leaving only a blank chrome disc.
Genuine badges are rubbish too.
