This is not the first time that Sri Lanka has backstabbed India and it appears that betrayal is ingrained into their DNA.
But this particular instance of betrayal boggles the mind. Sri Lanka is still reeling under the Chinese debt trap, and while their benefactors just looked the other way it was India that stepped up and rendered whatever assistance that was possible. To repay that immediately with such ingratitude requires one to be inordinately thick skinned.
Almost makes it seem that it was India's fault for displaying humanity, prior to ensuring cast iron guarantees to safeguard its own interests.
