To better appreciate the music of Barrios it is imperative to learn about his life and his character. After being denied a place for public performance in his own country and with little success abroad ( at the beginning), Barrios turned into an itinerant and gifted musician. In the 1930s it was not easy to pioneer in presenting a popular instrument (the guitar) in its classical approach to audiences in Latin America. Many times the audiences undermined his talent and were slow to him full credit.
Barrios never returned home to Paraguay. His body rests in a sepulcher in El Salvador (Central America ). But his music as much as his bohemian spirit has reached and has won the heart of the rich, the poor, the afflicted, the hopeless and the ones who advocate for a better tomorrow in life.
