I was 15 and saw this at a drive-in theatre, needless to say in the surrounding darkness it scared the hell out of me! Just wanted to say the first will always (as others) be a master piece. It was such a independent, low budget and no known actors at the time. A lot of people didn't even know Jaimie Lee was related to Janet Leighs' iconic "Pyscho". Also, it took years for me to read and piece together HOW Michael and Laurie were siblings. SPOILER: After the killings, Michael was locked up, Laurie was adopted giving her the name STRODE. WHY? He supposedly remembered seeing her when she went to the Old Myers house and put the key there. Don't believe that he knew it was his sister, but being catatonic pyscho, he visually remembered her & chose to victimize her thereon. Also, The movie was first shown to execs without music and they didn't like it! Carpenter then quickly improvised and came up with the score and history was made. I read, the music is so eerie as he uses an atypical rhythm patter along with an off key sound. As you can see its mostly the same baseline, its just the added effects that make it so dramatic. The movie s first release got MEDIOCRE reviews but it wasn't until a few years that reruns on HALLOWEEN made it a CLASSIC CULT movie. Carpenter was truly talented and I would compare him to hitchcock any day! Sorry for so long, I've just been a avid fan and I think he warrants credit. Happy Halloween

I think what really made this movie spooky was the music and the fact that "now you see him...now you don't." The clothesline scene was very creepy because if you blinked your eyes you missed seeing Michael blended in with the white towels or whatever they were. My favorite scene was the laundry room. Just what was he waiting for??? It's amazing how many times I have seen this movie and it still makes me nervous LOL. Donald Pleasance made Michael more frightening. Watch out for the quiet ones!!!
