ABS just insures that your wheels don't lock up and skid under hard braking. Thats what it stands for: Antilock Braking System. The fastest way to stop a car is NOT to skid the wheels, its to apply the brakes as hard as you can just before the point of lock up. The other thing is that once you lock up the brakes, you lose steering control and will not be able to control direction, often sliding slightly sideways. So ABS helps you stop faster, as well as maintain control of the car. Cont Blw

that is the beauty of owning a toyota if the find a problem they will do a recall to fix the problem to ensure you're safe where as most other car companies will not do that they will only fix it in the next year model or if something goes wrong they will try to say the owner sabotage the part (GM is famous for this)

I have been complaining about this for a couple years... if the road it rough it feels like you are accelerating while braking. It really is scarey.
