Learning Synthesis with Pure Data Series 01 Lesson 04 - Making a MIDI Input Module

Description

In this lesson, we will build a MIDI input module to be used in a modular synthesis approach to building synthesizers. The input module will receive MIDI data from your external MIDI controller or MIDI compatible software with virtual MIDI ports. This module will then be used to channel the MIDI data into other synthesizer components that we make.

Thank you so much for these lessons! I've learned so much so far. I keep running into a problem though. For some reason, my midi controller automatically sends the notes on channel 2, but the pitch bend and mod wheels send information on channel 1. Is there a way to fix this? I'm using an Alesis v61

I very much enjoyed this lesson. Thank you for putting in the time! But, what is the advantage of creating this interface? As far as I can tell, it is just to provide a visual monitoring of our MIDI in data? Because, otherwise, couldn't we just channel our external midi directly to the sound generators/components (without the MIDI in module)? I feel like I'm missing the ultimate purpose of this.

A big thankyou once again. Its been a long week waiting for this and now i'm 2 days late but i'm ready to rock. Btw, will you ever be doing anything with OSC, sharing data, audio, midi etc over network and working with say Python or Java, Processing, P5, etc? and finally... anything with say Arduino or Teensy? Just wondering. I suspect thats the direction I am headed in but its such a vast world of information its nice to have a goto for knowledge.

My pitch bend vslider always resets to zero once I actually move the pitch bend wheel. The loadbang sets it to 8192, but as soon as it receives pitchbend data it defaults to zero again. Everything is patched exactly the same as in the video as well
