Using Magnetic USB Cables on Electronics

I have found over time that with all the electronics I have that I have too many cables on my reloading bench plus I'm always worried about over-working the micro-usb cable ports. These magnetic cables eliminate all those problems for me. Hey there- I bought a bunch of these from another brand and have been loving them more or less. Mine have multiple pins for data and charging- the tips have these really cool concentric circles for connectors. The thing is- I have found that a couple of my devices may have been damaged by using these cables. The scenario was that the units had a little weather sealing flap over the port and that when the plug was in, the flap was strong enough to either slightly disconnect or cause some kind of partial or intermittent connection with the unit. Both units seemed to burn out their charge ports within a few weeks. So now the unit appears to have a connection to the cable, but it just overheats and does not charge. These cables are rated for USB 3.1 Gen2 and quick charging. There is likely a little loss over the magnetic connections, but my electronics do appear to charge quickly.

Keep in mind that if you want to use a magnetic cable for your phone in your car for Android Auto or Apple Car Play you will need one that transfers data as well as charge. Some magnetic cables are charge only.

I didn't even know these existed! I looked them up on Amazon but there's a ton of them, do you have one in particular which supports your channel or recommend?

By the way, I'm drooling over the Labradar and Forester Co-Ax press still under the tree thanks to you! LOL Seriously though, I want to install this charging system before I start using it to avoid any damage to the connection..

Many thanks! Happy New Year!

Great idea... any idea on the “rate of charge” vs. a traditional interface?

John how do you know which magnetic connector fit the LabRadar?

Both links in the description of the cables you suggest are no longer active. Can you please update the links if possible?

What kind of stand is that for your Lab Radar?
