Let me ALERT everyone. NEVER open your doors to strangers, this includes anyone that claims they are a utility worker. Specially past 6pm or at late night.
Also, If a Utility worker is at your house claiming that they are there because of gas leaks, and you do not see a mass of any uniformed police officers, patrol vehicles with lights on,
fire department with a mass amount of firefighters, DO NOT open that door and call 911 immediately, because you are about to be robbed.
By federal law, if a utility worker shows up at your door for a gas leak or other emergency, they MUST be accompanied by police and fire department.
If you do not see that, call 911 and hunker down and DO NOT open the door.

Tip: if any worker comes to your door unannounced, call their company to verify they are supposed to be there.
I did this when police came to my apartment building asking to be let in. I asked how I could know they are police officers and one flashed his gun at me. I didn't let them in until I called the police and verified that they had good reason to enter. They did.
