Even though there was a fatality the pilot did an amazing job getting through this and being able to land the plane safely.

Great job to the flight and cabin crews for handling the emergency. I'm glad the aircraft was not catastrophically damage and was able to land safely. Keep those seatbelts fastened folks. Even if the ride is smooth.

I commiserate with the passengers on board this flight . I'd die of fear with this kind of horrifying turbulence . And it's a long flight even . Pilots say turbulence are not to be feared, but not when the turbulence gets this strong, and long . It's good that the Thai airport was already nearby for that needed emergency landing .

When a plane encounters what is commonly known as an "air pocket, " it can suddenly drop in altitude. It's wise to keep your seatbelt fastened while seated, as this can reduce the risk of injury from your head hitting the overhead compartment during such turbulence. Many air travelers tend to unfasten their seatbelts when the seatbelt sign is turned off by the pilot, almost as an automatic response, signaled by the sound of seatbelts clicking open. Interestingly, while it's a requirement to wear a seatbelt in a car in most countries, on a plane, which travels much faster, it doesn't seem mandatory except when the pilot instructs so. Even then, there are some individuals which ignore such instruction.

Every flight i have flown so far, they announce when turbulence is coming and requests remain seated with seat belt fastened. I wonder why they didn, t see this coming??

The problem seems to be the geography surrounding the Bay of Bengal. Deadly cyclones and floods are of regular occurrence. Hence, its not a surprise.

This very sad leaving one man dead and many other injuries but the reason for the turbulence was because there was a storm in the area but i belive it was the pilots and airline are at fault due to them not checking there flight path or any wheather or disruptive storms i feel so bad for the family onbored that flight as they will be scared for life to ever fly again

Reminds me of a flight from Nice to Frankfurt. It was winter and we were passing French Alps with a history of two air accidents with no survivors. Though it lasted only twenty minutes, i felt as if it was 20 yrs
