Thank God I have no debt anymore. I had debt many moons ago, but sat down one day and calculated how much I lose each, month, just because I spent money I did not have. I then paid off all my debt over...I think it was three years, while living like a pauper. It was hard, but worth it. Since then, if I don't have enough money for something, I just don't buy it. If I need it, I will save for it, then buy it. And because I don't lose any money each month because I owe the bank money, I can save money fast if needed. I also rent, so the owner has to pay for repairs etc. Life is so much better this way.

#1 goal for the 45% of people with no savings should be to escape the renting class. When you rent, you basically make a $1000+ purchase every month. If you had a mortgage, your “rent” that would normally go to some greasy landlord, goes to you in your own pocket, you just have to pay off your house like you would any other bill… I don’t know what you need to do to get free rent, but that is how you get out of being poor
