I'm sure MSN Messenger needs no introduction for most of you. In today's video, I wanted to take a look back at the changes that occurred through the years before MSN Messenger was phased out in 2014.

The nostalgia is like a spike in my gut, the 2000's were such a simpler time..

I miss the "3D" look from the WIndows XP and Vista eras. I don't mind the current flat look that much, but it's not the same.

Wow…was born in 1990 and legit spend HOURS on this. I have so many memories on it, but the first that comes to mind is getting home from high school, pouring a Pepsi with some ice cubes, turning on windows media player so that it displays what I’m listening to and just chatting away. I feel fortunate enough to have witnessed the height and end of the golden age of the internet.

I remember communicating with my then Girlfriend through MSN. She was An American and we would regularly video chat and play the MSN games together. I was still very young back then but eventually her family and mine allowed us to meet. We still keep in contact today. Good times!

MSN’s emoticons were so much better to express emotions than Apple’s emojis

MSN, especially version 7.5 and 8.5, is the most advanced chat program ever made and may be for a long time. I tried to keep using it for as long as I could but other contacts stopped appearing online, until it became completely useless. It frustrates me what happened to it.

Back in the day people joked that if you wanted to get to know a girl, you asked "What's your MSN?" and not phone numbers anymore. Now look at us talking about Messenger...

I never got to use it. I was too young at the time to be allowed on the internet. By the time I started using IM clients, I was on Windows 7 and everyone using IM in my middle school class was on Skype. However, this video brings me some nostalgic joy. The sense of mystery and intrigue that little pre-rendered butterfly brought me as a child will never be forgotten. In a time before I knew of the internet (or at least before I knew what it was), that little butterfly was always a mystery. A web browser? E-mail? A news room? Some other early 2000s internet magic? I could only imagine.
Even after I first got online, I only ever used the internet for flash games and school report research. What did that little butterfly mean? I wouldn't know the truth until it was too late, and Messenger was shut down.

I still remember the first time my dad taught me how to use it 16 years ago. I have no words to express how much I miss those good old times

I remember getting home after school and group chatting with friends. Such amazing memories. No chat service compares even to this day.
