Rattlesnake caught in my front yard!

Although we live near Denver, we're in the foothills and blessed with a lot of wildlife in our yard and around the house. I've seen rattlesnakes in the yard before but this was the first one I was able to capture for relocation - I took it further up the hill, in the open grasses, to protect it from traffic, dogs and humans. My guess (hope?) is that it is suitable habitat since it's still in the 'hood!

Here's my personal webpage about backyard wildlife:

Hey Roger, that's awesome! I do something similar down in Phoenix - I'm going to go check out your sites.

Interesting. However, it's probably best to leave the rattles on so that the snake can warn us before biting and striking...

Wow, what a handsome fellow! His pattern is quite vivid for a C. viridis. I would've taken him for C. oreganus until I read that this is near Denver.

The pattern is Mojave/Southern Pacific rattlesnake. But this is in Colorado, so I don't know. Just so you know, the Mojave green here in Southern California has the most potent venom of any rattlesnake while the Southern Pacific rattlesnake along our coast has the second most potent venom. You get bit by either and you're losing appendages while you will die without immediate medical attention..
