Ahmaud Arbery’s death was one of multiple flash points this year that’s made people question whether or not the foundation of America’s justice system is equality or racism. Georgia's citizens arrest law has historically been used to reinforce the racial hierarchy they were created to uphold by providing cover for whites who were oppressing blacks. They were written in 1861 by Thomas Cobb, a lawyer, slave owner, Confederate Congressman, and co-founder of University of Georgia's law school who wrote the book of record on why Black people should be enslaved. Host, Nicole Ellis speaks with historians and lawmakers about legal codes written by the Confederate Congress of Georgia.

The claim that the citizen's arrest law is racist is ridiculous and untenable.
Many countries have similar laws of which only the US has a history of slavery.
I find the abandonment of reason apalling, under which laws and rights are taken away from citizens to appease so called social justice.

Good luck on your repeal effort !!! We need to work every day, every minute to root out & end racism in this country, else we are doomed!

Nicole - please don't go downhill at the end of your sentences - I can't hear you. Why aren't we, as a nation, getting rid of these outdated laws?

Again. These laws are still on the books and your politicians who you continue to elect enforce these laws.

What question of, "how?" is there? As "easily" as it was written into the law by a self-serving slave-owner, so should a consensus of modern-day legislators be able to repeal it *in its entirety*.

The rhetorical question of, "Why has this stayed on the books so long?" isn't even a question. We all know WHY. Same reason the Georgia state flag had the Confederate Stars 'N Bars battle flag as part of its design for so many years. We all know why THAT was. But that's not what's important: what really matters is, now that you've had an awakening, what are you going to do about it, and how quickly can you get it done? It just ain't rocket science.

So why do other places and countries that didn't have slavery within their borders have similar laws? Doesn't that make the origins of Georgia's citizens arrest law just a red herring here when it comes to the Ahmaud Arbery case?
