Georgia governor signs bill changing citizen's arrest law

As the three men accused of killing 25-year-old Ahmaud Arbery go before a Federal judge on hate crime charges, a new law based on the case takes effect in Georgia. News4Jax ITEAM investigator Kelly Wiley explains how a citizens arrest law has now changed in response to the fatal shooting.

So, now that this new bill has passed, a concealed carry permit owner can see a person strike a lady on the street, forcibly steal her pocketbook, but cannot enact a citizen's arrest because the assailant is not obviously armed, or has not yet pulled his own weapon???

I never liked this whole citizen arrest thing. It’s scary to me that someone can assume that you committed a crime and come after you with a weapon with no possible evidence or proof that you did it.

So, if you pull in your Georgia driveway and see your house being robbed, you call the police and watch, but can't pull your firearm to make a citizen's arrest - - at least not until the robber picks up your baseball bat - - and at that point he is a threat, and you can then pull out your firearm for self defense? Or, what if the robber has a knife or a concealed pistol himself? Even though you can legally carry, you must wait for the robber to get the jump, or draw, on you first??? Great job, Georgia! Absolutely not! I'm a Republican and I will die a Republican and it makes me sick to think that they want to use his past against him that has nothing to do with the fact that he was chased down and hunted and murdered! I don't cry about anything but I'm crying it is so horrible that he couldn't even go for a jog without being targeted! And no justice was going to come from anything until the video came out!. This is so sick on so many levels to try to use his past against him! I'm a recovering heroin addict and I get people who try to use my past against me all the time. I don't know anybody who has not gone into a new subdivision and walk through the houses that were being renovated. He went into that house maybe he was looking at it because he thought that they were building a new house and he wanted to buy it or wanted to see what they were doing it wasn't occupied. And even that fact it wasn't their property. He wasn't even doing anything wrong he went for a jug and they murdered him in Cold blood who does that. I hope to God that his family gets to justice that they so rightly deserve those three men need to sit in prison and rot for the rest of their lives they need to think about what they did. I would like to think it wasn't because of the color of his skin but nobody in this country is dumb we know that if it was a white man they would not have shot him they would not have thought twice. This is something that cannot cannot go on and our country that innocent people die just because they're out jogging and people are chasing them down. It is so horrible that his family had to go through that and he had to go through that I can't wait to see what happens when they get their day in court. Like I said I'm a Republican and I am so disgusted at the way the media portrays everything and the way that these defense attorneys think that they're going to try to bring up his past against him. It has nothing to do with what happened that day. If anything he was even more scared that day because he knows what happens to young black men in America. That's what was in his head he was trying not to die because he knows that they used to chase black men down and tie them to the back of cars that they used to beat them like they did to Emmett till. Absolutely horrible I hope that his family gets the Justice they deserve and that these men rot in prison for the rest of their lives. And I hope that they are stuck in solitary confinement because of the high-profile nature and that they are stuck there forever. You don't hunt a human being down and kill them it's not open season to kill young black men.
