This is proof that Karate is more than just kicking and punching. 😎

When I started practicing I believed everything were kicks punches and blocks, but those weird blocks that I was never going to use, quickly became punches, and those punches with time and practice, became throws which were even more efective

In the book Karate-Do Kyohan, Funakoshi Sensei describes nine throws (Nagewaza) in karate.
In some styles, these throws are even required at higher black belt examinations.

I've been doing Karate for over 30 years. There are so many moves in Katas that other people in class say, "That's a block" and I say, "A block doesn't make sense there. But, if you think about it was a take down, it does make sense." When I do kata, pretty much every 2nd or 3rd move is a take down. But 20 years ago, I didn't think of it like that.

Even Taekwondo has throws so it's always baffled me as to why people think karate doesn't.

1. Firstly, I RESPECT this instructor because unlike so many others, he's showing throwing discipline to others.
2. This is a practitioner whos learned to evolve his style by humbly sharing and practicing with others of other disciplines. I follow him and myself have shared/ practiced with others as well. As we say in one of my most practiced styles in respect..PO

Thank you for all your content Jesse. I always feel that I take something away from your videos and I’m a better practitioner for it.

I trained wado ryu karate for eight years, at a martial arts open day i cross trained with a wing chun teacher, i couldn't land a glove on him, been training wing chun ever since . Twenty years later and i still love it.❤

Got to enjoy a good throw. Along with locks & sweeps they’re present in the katas. Which is why you never stop practicing Karate 🥋

I'm convinced that the long 270 degree turn to gedan barai at the end of the three consecutive oi zukis in Heian Shodan is a throw, specifically a variation of taiotoshi.
