I gotta say my favorite part about GN is how ruthlessly honest Steve is and how completely unafraid he is to shit on these companies who do consumers wrong, whereas other tech media outlets are basically paid shills and will never do/reveal anything that might result in backlash from the hands that feed them.

Thank you for your honesty & integrity Steve, it's sad to see that those two values have become originality in tech media outlets, instead of trying to spread information and knowledge, are only trying to sell you something.

Meltdown has little impact on SSD performance, the Spectre firmware update has proven to have a very negative impact on performance and this has been seen with numerous tests from numerous sources testing both Linux and Windows with a wide range of hardware.

Told my mom what you said about Time Warner. It gave her a good laugh.

Thanks for giving me and her a good way to describe our Time Warner/Spectrum/Charter experience.

In Switzerland I used our largest carrier for years and I had crap service as well. I’m now with a tiny local provider, Ticinocom, gigabit fiber to the home, subscribed 22 March 2017, installed 24th March 2017, no issue since then, typical speeds 830MBit down and 660 up

I just understand one thing: how come you don't have 500k+ subscribers ??? Your content easily deserves much more subs.

Your experience with Google Fiber is the total opposite of mine. They were great with my install, my sister's install, and my mom's install. I've had great service for years. No complaints whatsoever. And my sister doesn't even pay for her internet.

The fact that caching drives and software are making a comeback seems to indicate the stagnation of tech and price for storage solutions. I had a cache drive about 6 years ago, and even then people were saying they'd be on their way out as SSD's got larger and cheaper.

@ 5:45 That sounds just like Apples Fusion Drive. Its all software based. It works pretty good over all.

I'm a Google Fiber customer, and GN is right about it taking FOREVER to get it installed. As in put money down in May, got the appointment email in September. That being said, once I was able to set the appointment, they showed up 5 minutes early, got it installed within 2 hours even though he had to drill multiple holes. I got the appointment email on a Friday and was able to set it for the next Monday at 10 AM. Since then, it has been a flawless service. It hasn't dropped. Gigabit all the time. With gigabit your own Internet speed is no longer the bottleneck. Now whoever you're downloading from becomes your limiting factor. It's really amazing to download a 100 GB game in about half an hour from Steam. Max download speed I saw through steam was 100 MBPS. Not megabit, megabyte. 1 GB videos (about 5 minute 1080p 60 fps) upload and process in the time it takes for me to copy and paste a description and tags. It's an insane upload time, and it hasn't dropped once. Steve, as a regular person who has Google Fiber and uses it mostly for music content creation, the speed has proven to be invaluable to me. I only expect this to be more true for you. It was frustrating to wait many months before being able to set an appointment, but since it's been set up it has been flawless and customer service for me, someone without a huge social media presence, has still been really good.
