Russia's military drills near Ukraine border raise invasion fears

Russian troops are carrying out large-scale military drills in Belarus, as well as naval drills in the Black Sea near the border with Ukraine.
Kyiv says the war games make navigating critical waterways "virtually impossible".

I served in Poland and I was on a training mission in Ukraine. Ukraine's economy is a basket case. Its manufacturing is ruined and it lost all its traditional markets. People are leaving in droves. Unlike Iraq It doesn't have rich oil or gas fields that could help to rebuild economy. All it has are pervasive corruption and incompetent, authoritarian regime. It's not an asset in its current pitiful state, but a liability. Putin is a rational, smart politician and he knows this as well as anybody. So this war hysteria is completely pointless and it's just an excuse to start a new Cold War with Russia.

Could the Ukrainian government please get a consistent narrative? In the last few days President Zelensky has said that Russia has conducted similar drills before and he is unconcerned about an invasion and that invasion speculation was damaging to Ukraine. Then the Ukrainian Defence Minister said an invasion was not imminent because the Russian forces have not formed battle groups. Now the Ukrainian Foreign Minister is talking about possible Russian invasion. Russia has not changed what it was doing so what is the basis for the change in the narrative?
