Reading these comments makes me lose a lot of confidence in like 60% of Americans

The supreme court has essentially thrown out the concept; more states are loosening restrictions and crime in those states is dropping.

I'm a conservative Republican myself and i can't help but feel for Obama in his frustration. I mean, the amount of mass shootings just within the past couple years let alone since 9/11 is heart-wrenching and very sad. Not saying gun control would solve the problem, in light of how bad these recent shootings have been i also can't say it wouldn't help to have SOMETHING. The only problem is that as soon as you suggest something, all the paranoid idiots come out of the woodwork and start yelling that the government is trying to take their guns. Life isn't black and white. There has to be a solution to thos in the grey area. Somewhere in the middle where some solution can be thought of to help.

"Damn, that pesky Constitution and the Right to defend oneself" Obama

They are not gun safety laws. They are gun control laws. Nice rebrand.

IMHO, Obama's best chance at getting stricter gun regulations was when he first was in office and we had a Democrat controlled House and Senate. He chose to make Obama Care his main priority.

Violence will decrease once people focus on the root of the problems and not the symptoms.

Aww, buck up, Sport. At least you crushed what was left of privacy and kept us mired in bullshit wars.

The best and most prudent course of action in concern to protection of innocent lives in America would be to constantly remind the people that their personal safety is their personal responsibility. The more peaceable people arm themselves the greater the threat to the criminal. No law has ever stopped any particular or larger group of laws from being committed and pleading for mercy is and ill advised form of self defense. Colorful language and your middle finger are no better an alternative.

The USA should have mandatory high school classes on gun safety.
Because the 2nd amendment is not going anywhere.

In the neighborhoods I've lived in here in the US I never saw the need to get a gun. Never. I lived in suburban committees where the only guns I saw were carried by the police. Then I lived in neighborhoods where it seemed everyone hunted and guns had been handed down for generations. I see hunters parked on the side of I-80 going in the woods, camouflaged and armed with rifles. I've visited open carry states/communities and I never felt unsafe in any of these environments. However when it comes to government officials pushing to take the peoples guns, I have much mistrust and do feel unsafe for fear that the government is weaponizing our military and law enforcement. The mistrust isn't just their 'push' on these issues it stems from how they handled themselves during COVID, they earned my mistrust. They made rules, then ran to other states to break the ones they made back home. We had governors telling us we can't have more than 6 people at our house for Thanksgiving only to find out they had more than 20. Then they told us do be old fuddy duddies. Did they get arrested and fined? Of course not. They broke their own rule, and should have been jailed no less than 10 years. Once my kids are out of the house I may decide to purchase a few fire arms. For me where I live, I prefer to not have them while the kids are home, but that is my personal choice. If I lived in an unsecured border-town, I'd have an arsenal in the event I have to protect my kids from invaders. That's the reality.

Does the tens of thousands number include gun violrnce by gangs and criminals? The very same people that will ignore gun laws. So who they are really targeting is the law abiding common man and woman.

Those mass shootings he's speaking of could have been quickly stopped if a concealed carry permit holder were nearby. The world is becoming a dangerious place. No government should hamper its citizens from self protection. Instead they should encourage it. When seconds count, the police are minutes away.

I moved to Japan, so it's no longer a concern for me. I feel sorry for my fellow Americans though, it's crazy!
