for the longest time I was convinced that Davy Jones was part prosthetics and part CGI, not 100% CGI. To this day I think he's one of the most realistically accomplished CGI characters of all time

Davy Jones' design was YEARS ahead of its time, and still is. The newest movies are just now barely catching up to Pirates, when it comes to design as good as that.

I REALLY want you guys to do a SFX (Sound Effect) Artist React or something similar to that, sound artist and editors are really underrated and under-appreciated

Davy Jones is so incredible that when I didn't know much about FX, I literally thought that they made some advanced puppet and makeup costume hybrid in order to get it all to work. Even now, when I've learned so much about digital effects, whenever I watch that movie I still think he's completely real because even though I know how he was made, it's so perfect that he just registers as a real creature. I'll get back to that "man, can you believe that he's all CG" thought like ten minutes after the movie is over. Crazy shit.

You guys should really do a whole episode around Pirates of the Caribbean. There’s so many amazing VFX sequences in the franchise. The skeletons in Curse of the Black Pear, the whirlpool battle, and my personal favorite the Kraken. A lot of possibilities.

You’ve talked about Yoda and Davy Jones now. You should contact Jamy Wheless who was the lead animator for both of those digital characters. He has some great insights about capturing subtle involuntary movements like lip tremors.

I think with Davey Jones they wanted Bill Nighy's real eyes as a backup in case their CG ones weren't good enough, but in the end they were, and obviously it was way easier to just do them as CG rather than roto the real eyes into the scenes.

the creature in Avatar snapping at him as he jumps off the cliff, it actually makes sense that it bites and claws in the same attack. This is very reminiscent of how felines hunt

Since we've now got 6 terminator movies over the course of almost 40 years now, maybe yall could take a look at how the practical and digital effects have changed or stayed the same over the years? Specifically terminator 3, salvation, genesis (my least favorite) and dark fate, as those have both amazing digital effects and practical effects throughout the movies

There was that shot of Davy Jones expressing anger, I think it was and all of the tenticles like stood up and shivered. That was so powerful and so emotive, truly incredible SFX.
