Candle In The Wind - Elton John (1973) HD FLAC

"Candle In The Wind" was released on Elton John's Goodbye Yellow Brick Road in 1973. It was THE double album of the 1970's....to me at least. Simply one classic tune after another....the production, Elton's band, writing, and of course those incredible EJ vocals were all extraordinary.

This is my 3rd video for my planned compilation of each track from the album. I've been off the series for way too long and keep getting sidetracked with some of my other Elton favorites from other albums, but was anxious to get one of several that I have been working on out......so this morning while i was supposed to be mowing the grass, I finished up this video instead!

"Candle In The Wind" remains one of the most memorable songs written about a famous person, in this case of course Marilyn Monroe. It's just a really beautiful reflection of a really beautiful woman, and the not so beautiful world she ended up in. Beautiful and tragic...the two words most applicable.

For the video I wanted to try and capture the mood of the song is some way more meaningful than simply stringing one image of Marilyn after the other, so I tried to select only a few photos that I liked the most, but I was absolutely stunned at not only the beauty of this woman, but of the sheer amount of photos that were taken of her! I've never worked on a video that had such a vast and quality selection of images to choose from.....unbelievable. What an absolutely gorgeous woman....an almost unworldly beauty, she seems to emanate some kind of light?!

Did I enjoy mowing the lawn in the middle of the south Texas afternoon? Not even, but it's done....kinda. Think the video turned out better than my mow job! :-)

Huge thanks to John Atherton for the picture of the boy at the television set! Visit his site for more awesome pictures:

Goodbye Norma Jean
No I never knew you at all
You had the grace to hold yourself
While those around you crawled
They crawled out of the woodwork
And they whispered into your brain
They set you on the treadmill
And they made you change your name

And it seems to me you lived your life
Like a candle in the wind
Never knowing who to cling to
When the rain set in
And I would have liked to know you
But I was just a kid
Your candle burned out long before
Your legend ever did

Loneliness was tough
The toughest role you ever played
Hollywood created a superstar
And pain was the price you paid
Even when you died
All the press still hounded you
All the papers had to say
Was that Marilyn was found in the nude

And it seems to me you lived your life
Like a candle in the wind
Never knowing who to cling to
When the rain set in
And I would have liked to know you
But I was just a kid
Your candle burned out long before
Your legend ever did

Goodbye Norma Jean
Though I never knew you at all
You had the grace to hold yourself
While those around you crawled
Goodbye Norma Jean
From the young man in the 22nd row
Who sees you as something more than sexual
More than just our Marilyn Monroe

And it seems to me you lived your life
Like a candle in the wind
Never knowing who to cling to
When the rain set in
And I would have liked to know you
But I was just a kid
Your candle burned out long before
Your legend ever did

Your candle burned out long before
Your legend ever did

, ,Even when you died, the press still hounded you", exactly the same thing happened 35 years later to Diana, and Elton honoured her too with this Song.

When Jane Fonda was a kid her dad Henry told her Marilyn Monroe was coming by for a visit. When Marilyn arrived Jane ran to the front door and she said there was a beautiful Aura hovering over Marilyn's head.Jane said no one saw it but me but it was there. When Frank Sinatra first meet Marilyn they shook hands and Frank said something happened that never happened to him before. There was what he only described as an electric velvet energy that went through his whole body..This women was magic and is the greatest pop culture icon of all time.

"I would've liked to know you, but I was just a kid." That line gets me every time.

So I'm here on this song coming from a playlist of mans account that I got to from his comment 9 years ago, and he said he had cancer and his boy was his best friend but the song that came on the radio made him pull over and cry because he didnt know how far he could make it in his son's life, and all activity on his account stopped 8 years ago.
I dedicate this to him.
The song was The walk by Sawyer Brown.

Her tragic death impacted so many lives including me. I was born in the 80s but still I feel the sorrow that never fades. I discovered her in the 90s in magazines when I was young. I never saw a beauty like her in my entire life.. She is incomparable.. We love you forever Marilyn Monroe..💗💗💗

This is not only such a great song, but an excellent tribute to probably the most beautiful woman of all-time; Marilyn Monroe. I also always think of my late middle brother when I hear this song because he played this album so much back in the 70's.

Thanks again, my friend! I truly appreciate your gracious comments! I'm so happy to know you felt the vid was special. It's frustrating sometimes to make a video like this one and have so few people notice because they're all watching the ones with 100, 000's of views! Thanks for one more!

Every time I listen to this song I pick up something I didn't hear before. Lately, when listening and closing my eyes, I actually see a conductor controlling all the different aspects of this tune. The composition is an unbelievable treat to the ears! The rhythm, the syncopation, the beautiful tempo...that just "begs" the background vocals to come in when they do, and Elton's wonderful vocals blending in to the entire mixture, and being the lead of it all - just wonderful!!! It's like being taken for a ride in a craft, and when the song ends, you land softly and get off. Wow, does it feel good to listen to this song!!!

This song speaks for itself by whispering its metamessages of the pain of life and the sorrows we endure into the psyches of each individual who listen to it. It washes me thin leaving only tears that flow so freely. It doesn't cause me to weep, it allows me to. Thanks MGM for all you've done for me.
