why when testing - the utm strips to the original url?

Quick question, could you some how force a GCLID through the UTM method? I never realized that it was an option, but if I just added a parameter for it and had it equal the GCLID then in theory couldn't we just see that in analytics to double dip aside from whatever crm or website capturing we have set up?
