Gosh I just realized how badly it would be for me to go blind… because of the fact that I work with my hands and I often get hurt or burned I have VERY limited sensation on most of my fingers, I don’t think braille would be a possibility 😅

I am in the middle of learning grade one Braille without sight. My instructor and I are going through punctuation; let me tell you it’s not easy when you’re older and having to learn it. Those hacks are pretty good. At the end of grade one, I do hope that I can read my braille that I type a little faster than I am right now. It’s so confusing because typing it and reading it and then learning the punctuation is tiresome. I will be having to learn grade 2 Braille which is totally different than grade one braille, wow wish me luck. I used to follow a few other blind YouTubers, but I have to say you’re the best one for me. The fact that you are not only teaching people that have eyesight but you’re also teaching me who is partially deaf and blind. Thank you for sharing all your ideas and hacks❣️😁🇨🇦

i’m glad you changed the location of the subtitles! i could barely read them with the interface of the youtube app getting in the way when they were at the bottom of the screen.

I'm sighted and work in signaging and just today I was working on some signs that have braille on them. I noticed that two signs that have different words on them have the same braille, luckily before a costly mistake was made. This made me realise that I know more braille than I realised. As a child I had a rudimentary knowledge of signing for the deaf that I have since forgotten, but I would love to get better at communicating with other differently abled people around me.

This is incredibly helpful!
After my second stroke I wanted to learn how to read Braille because I lost a portion of my eyesight.
And figured it would be a lot easier to learn Braille before I ever went completely blind if I ever did go completely blind.

I'm a speech pathologist. It's kinda interesting that a lot of the lead-up to learning to read Braille is very OT-coded. Thanks for the video! 😊

One struggle a lot of sighted people have when reading Braille by sight is Interpoint aka double sided braille or braille on both sides of the paper. I have some vision left but am learning braille blindfolded to help me.

I was travelling to Taiwan from New York with a colleague, and when our flight pushed back it collided with another aircraft- another whole story! So you can imagine there was a lot of confusion about what was going on. I saw my colleague signing to a woman, explaining what was going on. After things had calmed down, I asked him how he learned ASL- did he have a family member or friend who was hearing-impaired?
He did not- he just thought it might be useful someday. And regardless, he was the kind of person that just liked to learn things for the sake of learning them. Very cool dude.

Thank you so much! I am sighted and have previously tried to memorize the braille alphabet, but was clearly doing it by sight and not touch because i truly could not feel the dots. I'll try out some of those tricks to get my fingers used to it!

I love this so much! My nanna went blind and I have a vision impairment too I think it’s such a good skill for even sight people to have to be able to tell the difference between coins in a pocket or finding pennies in a bag. Great exercises you never know when something like that will be needed ❤

I’m beginning to consider learning braille so this video is super helpful! I am a librarian so from a professional standpoint braille is really interesting and I love learning about a diversity of reading resources. On a more personal note my grandmother was diagnosed with an eye disease that made her go nearly blind in her final years, and we found out it was genetic, so I think learning braille now would offer me some comfort that if I do lose my sight the way she did at least I could still read!
