Before I watch any.further
I just wanna say that the fact that you work as a touring drummer, and still put out videos to help inspiring drummers by giving them professional advice is rad.
Alot of YouTube drummers are hard workers and I just wanted to take a moment to appreciate your hard work.
Thanks senpai.
Now back to the video

Also very important learn to BREATH while playing, helps to get oxygen to the muscles to prevent you from cramping up.

It's been about 3 months into my drumming passion, and I have made plenty of these as of now. But you certainly live and learn! Appreciate the lesson and advice!

#11: Drummers who don't sing. Notice I said "don't sing" not "can't sing." You're a musician, don't lie to us or yourself, you can sing. You don't need to be Frank Sinatra, but if you don't sing, you're going to find your self getting passed over and losing an audition to someone who will. This applies to any musician honestly, not just drummers, but I see drummers do it (or not do it) the most. Just coming in for gang vocals on a chorus, or doing "heys" is all you need to start, then expand to simple harmonies. If you are willing to do it, your chance of getting hired are twice as high.

Learning to play toto's Rosanna was one of the best things I've ever done for my playing. Learning to play any half time shuffle will, by default, spill over into the rest of your playing.

Holy, I didn't know you drummed for I prevail! It's so boss that I've been watching your lessons and tips and turn around and find out your in one of my favorite bands. Man, I really need to pay attention to faces.

Was just at self help in San Bernardino and got to take a pic with you guys. I can't say how much I've been able to get back into the groove with your vids and I can't thank you enough.

As a long time percussionist and drummer I agree so much with everything you’re saying.

On a side note I’m a HUGE FAN of iPrevail and your music has pushed me through some really rough times.
My Heart I Surrender and Alone have been two very important songs in my life.
I couldn’t have gotten through some of the things I’ve gotten through without that music in my ear.

I mostly just practice without music, getting timing/fills/grooves down, which plays a HUGE part to drums, not just learning other's music, but honing ones skills behind the kit

Thanks! This is really helpful, I really appreciate the fact you tour and post regularly there are other YouTube drummers that do live shows but hardly ever post! Keep up the good work!!

One of my struggles is playing to just music while I listen to a lot of metal and it does help me get skills that I wouldn’t have learned on my own, I know that I still need to sit and jam and practice on the kit without music too

Be open-minded with different genres. I purposely auditioned for and got the drum spot in a country band, who done some blues, oldies, and a few rock songs. One of the best learning experiences I've had as a drummer/musician. I learned so much about Dynamics, timing, and just overall drumming knowledge in general. I was young too, and had only been playing drums about 5 or 6 yrs. But, i had played other instruments, and was playing actual gigs for money and a crowd after about 1 yr behind the kit. I was a natural, and took to it immediately actually surprised myself, and that's pretty difficult to do.

Excellent video. Another one I would add it starting off playing death/black metal with a locked down hi-hat and not learning LEFT foot pedal/bark dynamics...that has gimped my own development.
