Lyrics:
On a long and lonesome highway, east of Omaha
You can listen to the engines moanin' out his one old song
Think about the woman or the girl you knew the night before
But your thoughts will soon be wanderin', the way they always do
When you're ridin' sixteen hours and there's nothin' much to do
And you don't feel much like ridin', you wish the trip was through
Here I am, on the road again, here I am, up on the stage
Here I go, playin' star again, there I go, turn the page
So you walk into this restaurant, all strung out from the road
And you feel the eyes upon you, as you're shakin' off the cold
You pretend it doesn't bother you, but you just want to explode (yeah, oh)
Most times you can't hear 'em talk, other times you can
All the same old cliché's, "is it woman, or is it man"
And you always seem outnumbered, you don't dare make your stand
Make your stand
Ah, here I am, on the road again, here I am, up on the stage
Here I go, playin' star again, there I go, turn the page
Whoa, hey
Out there in the spotlight, you're a million miles away
Every ounce of energy, you try and give away
As the sweat pours out your body, like the music that you play
Later in the evenin', as you lie awake in bed
With the echoes of the amplifiers, ringin' in your head
You smoke the day's last cigarette, rememberin' what she said
What she said
Oh, here I am, on the road again, here I am, up on that stage
Here I go, playin' star again, there I go, turn the page
Here I go, turn that page
Here I go, there I go, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah yeah, I'm a rock and roll god
Here I go
Here I go
Here I go, oh whoa
Here I go

My motorcycle and I rode 10 thousands of kilometers together. This song is for that beautiful piece of machine that brought peace to my mind.

In the 1990s I was on my way home with my teenage daughter in the car and when this song came on I turned it up and my daughter said in a surprised voice I didn’t know you liked Metallica Dad I said yes they are okay but I really like this song she told me it’s a new song Dad and Inexplained to her it is not they just did a cover. When we walked into my home I pulled out Segar live and played her Bob Segars version with him explaining he was going to do a old song dating back to 1973, my Daughter was slightly surprised as she was born in 1986

Awesome interpretation of this classic original by Bob Seger. Gives me goosebumps. And the acoustic bass sounds so phat in this concert.

On a long and lonesome highway
East of Omaha
You can listen to the engines moanin'
Out this one-note song
You'd think about the woman
Or the girl you knew the night before

But your thoughts will soon be wanderin'
The way they always do
When you're ridin' 16 hours
There's nothin' much to do
And you don't feel much like ridin'
We just wish the trip was through

Here I am, on the road again
There I am, up on the stage
There I go playin' the star again
There I go, turn the page

So you walk into this restaurant
All strung out from the road
And you feel the eyes upon you
As you're shakin' off the cold

And you always seem outnumbered
You don't dare make a stand
Make your stand

There I am, up on the stage
Here I go playin' the star again
There I go, turn the page

Like the music that you play

Later in the evenin'
As you lie awake in bed
With the echoes of the amplifiers
Ringin' in your head
You smoke the day's last cigarette
Rememberin' what she said
What she said

Yeah, and here I am, on the road again
There I am, up on the stage
Here I go playin' the star again
There I go, turn the page

And there I go
Turn that page
There I go, yeah, yeah
There I go, yeah, yeah

Here I go, yeah

Here I go, yeah
There I go
There I go

And I'm gone

uh, James! this version is so good, even better than the album version in my opinion. When people I know say "Metallica, are this the guys who only scream and use diabolic voices", I say "no, they are musicians who can sing, listen to this one"
