KCPD officer pleads not guilty to assault charge

A Kansas City police sergeant has pleaded not guilty to a felony assault charge. Sgt. Matthew Neal is on administrative leave after being indicted. He is accused of forcing his knee into the back of a 15-year-old boy's head last year until the boy said he couldn't breathe. Jackson County prosecutor Jean Peters Baker said the teen was treated for broken teeth and a gash on his head.
