I read a shocking essay today saying how you rinse them can be the difference whether your clothes pill, or not. Polyester with fabric softener don't pill! Cotton, however, pill! Thus, cotton should not be rinsed with a fabric softener and instead be washed with an enzyme detergent to take the pills away. Cottons also like being in an alkaline bath - powder detergents - whereas nothing damages polyester fabrics quite like alkaline baths, so synthetics ought to be washed with liquid detergent plus calgon(for heavy stains).

Please stop using polyester.
If you want moisture wicking and to feel comfortable then try natural fibres like BAMBOO. Much more moisture wicking than cotton, soft and lightweight.
