iOS 14 Picture in Picture - How To and Tips

With the newly released iOS 14 update, Picture in Picture functionality is FINALLY available for the iPhone letting users do things like watch videos and take FaceTime calls while doing other things on their device. Picture in Picture works with apps that play video content, but when it comes to third-party apps, app developers have to implement support for the feature and so initial launch support might be limited right now. You can also use it for YouTube with a slight workaround.

Youtube has yet to even add PiP support for the iPad. I suspect they just don’t want to, as they would rather charge people for background play.

Is this not working for anyone? It works for a brief second and then the video goes back to the web page/ doesn’t stay as a mini screen:( **for the YouTube work around

the whole picture and picture thing isn’t working for my facetime calls. i updated my phone yesterday morning and it was working for the first hour, after that it just went back to how the old facetime was

UPDATE: It seems as though some third party app updates are starting to roll in as PiP now works inside of Netflix, Hulu, etc. Still no support in the official YouTube app and our workaround using Safari also seems to be no longer working on iPhone unless you use desktop mode OR you pay for Premium. When we showed this off in the video, which was filmed the same day this video was posted, PiP on YouTube videos inside of Safari WAS working fine.

I have a problem when I press the pic in pic button it makes me go out of the videos but a second after it goes back in normal place

Netflix works with pip.
While watching Netflix rotate phone vertical , close app & video will appear in pip mode

It works on my iPad but not on my iPhone the iPhone shut down the video as soon as I leave the safari app

My Hulu was just doing now it’s not doing it 🤦🏽‍♂️🤦🏽‍♂️

So I’m guessing you need an iPhone X or higher to do this sadly because it won’t work for my phone

The day I updated (Friday) I was actually able to close out the Hulu app and hear the audio, see PIP, swipe the video to either left-side or right side of the screen....now I can’t do ANY of these things it’s weird 🧐🤨🤨

When I go to safari the picture appears In the corner but bounces back to full screen :((
