Being good at pullups is not just about having strong lats. That's why certain segments of a pullup can feel harder than others. Some people struggle with the beginning, middle, or end range more than the others. Based on a recent EMG study (link below), various muscles are activated at different times throughout the full range of a pullup. If some of those muscles are weak, you may have trouble with that specific part of the pullup.

I... haven't even thought about it! I'm horrible at the very last of the pull-up.. why didn't I consider it being different mucles?!
Anyway great video, I'm off to the gym now, need to experiment

What about one-arms? I'm having problems on the lowest part of the pullup but it's really easy from halfway and up. What should I do?

Alright but that haircuts looking pretty clean.
Seriously though, this does make sense to me, I probably feel the most weakness at the bottom part of the pull up

I could use some exercise tips for the top of the pull up training (although weighted negatives help a lot)

From my own experience I find my pecs are also very tired and sometimes sore the next day from doing several sets of pull-ups. It would stand to reason that they are used at the bottom of the movement.

I'm confused as to what the triceps are doing at the top part (the bit I find the hardest). Does this mean that I could help my pullups by doing 'push' exercises (pressups, dips etc)?

Hey.. doc.. I can manage 3 reps.. but at the forth rep I am stuck at the middle, will strengthening those muscle help me get my 4th rep?
