Yup, durian is considered a fruit as it is the edible fruit of several tree species in the genus Durio. The name "durian" is derived from the Malay word duri, meaning "thorn". The specific species of durian found in the international market is Durio zibethinus originally from Sumatra and Borneo. It has the texture and taste of a cheesecake or rich caramel, but the smell is overwhelmingly just a stinky cheese.
