Just a few note. The snorkel “breathes” for the submarine however the diesel engine is not cooled by air. The snorkel breathes for the engine. Running a diesel engine underwater would not only suffocate the crew but also kill the engine as engines need air to operate. Generally marine diesels are water cooled. 8:50

One of the scariest stories I’ve ever heard was from a couple (I met while backpacking in Peru) that had done a Amazon rainforest 7 day group tour in southeastern Colombia Tri-point border area with their own guide and private small boat - that on one of the last evenings were going in a super remote area to go on a cayman/wildlife night-safari and suddenly saw one of these lower tier narco submarines appearing in the headlights just a few meters away passing them by and almost causing a collision. Safe to say that the guide freaked out and maxed out the engines to get away from there, while the tourists were just confused and thought the submarine was probably just military or coast guard and nothing to worry about.

But once the group returned to camp and heard what it was and what potentially could have happened if they collided with it, their complaints about cutting the night safari short was immediately silenced.

Something about submarines being close to me in water is just super terrifying for me - can’t really explain why that scares me so much. And what’s even worse would be seeing a narco submarine like this operated by the cartel in a dark remote area of the Amazon rainforest 😵‍💫😵‍💫😵‍💫
