In this video I'll show you what happens if you don't recruit Wrex in Mass Effect.

MASS EFFECT - WHAT IF YOU DON'T RECRUIT GARRUS?

MASS EFFECT SECRET DIALOGUE - WHAT IF YOU RECRUIT LIARA AFTER VIRMIRE / NOVERIA / FEROS?

Wrex is one of two optional companions in the first Mass Effect game, with the other one being Garrus. During your investigation on the Citadel, you will be directed to speak with either Wrex or Garrus about a Quarian who supposedly had evidence against Saren. In this playthrough, I found Garrus and followed his leads to save Tali and her evidence.

When you confront Fist about Tali, if Wrex is in your crew he will automatically kill him. Without Wrex, you will have the option to spare him.

After exposing Saren’s cooperation with the Geth to the Council, Wrex will be waiting for us by the Docking Bay elevator in C-Sec, and our first order of business is his contract on Fist.

Even though we spared Fist, Wrex still congratulates us on getting the job done. Strange. Wrex will still be available to recruit after this conversation and you can find him in Chora’s Den in The Citadel Wards.

Other than his obvious absence during missions and squad banter, the first noticeable difference happens on Virmire. When Shepard and crew set out to destroy Saren’s Krogan breeding facility, there is no one to protest, no big confrontation.

At this point, Ashley usually suggests you go talk to Wrex because she senses he’ll be a problem, but without Wrex she will just have some light banter with Kaidan.

There are also some ramifications of not recruiting Wrex in Mass Effect 2.

If you finish Mass Effect without recruiting Wrex, your first opportunity to learn about his fate happens during a conversation with The Illusive Man. When discussing your old squad, you can ask about Wrex, even though you never recruited him.

But when you eventually make it to Tuchanka, Wrex is nowhere to be found. Without having the street cred of defeating Saren, Wrex was unable to take a leadership role in the clan. His brother Wreav will be at the head of Clan Urdnot instead.

Wrex's name will come up in conversation during Mordin and Grunt's loyalty missions but none of the dialogue is unique to this scenario. It’s like the game doesn’t know what to do. Usually when Wrex is alive, he is at the head of Clan Urdnot, so characters like Maelon and the Illusive Man speak as if this is the case. But Wrex isn’t in power and characters like Wreav speak of him in the past tense like he is dead.

And that’s basically it. Clan Urdnot is left in worse hands with Wreav at the helm. Wrex is nowhere to be found and no one really speaks about him. Mass Effect is definitely less exciting without Wrex, so I’ll never skip out on him again.

"I don't cause problems. I solve them. You go after Saren, you'll be glad I'm around" -Wrex

It’s funny to think even BioWare never considered players to be so foolish to reject Wrex and never wrote any dialogue

This channel is basically

"What happens if you played this game wrong." or "Bet you didn't know you could play this like that."

I dig it.

"Garrus & Wrex are optional."
Well, that explains why ME2 went with the Tali encounter during the 2nd mission.

I remember my first play through of ME1. I immediately fell in love with Garrus and Wrex. I got to Virmire and DIDNT know I needed to get him his old armor. He died right in front of me when I was still in elementary school. Gods, I was so sad. I quit the game then and there to do research on how to keep him alive. Once I did, I deleted that file, restarted, did everything I needed to do and more and saved my Krogan friend. When he did not die I was so relieved I actually cried in happiness. I love Wrex and Garrus and I will never leave em behind.

These videos are the only way I'd ever see most of these scenarios. I just can't not make the decisions that we make.

Last time I was this early, Garrus was still working with C-sec

The audience: did you recruit Wrex?
Big Dan: no
The audience: what did it cost?
Big Dan: everything

That click on 'forget it' was nearly physically painful.

What happens when you don't save Garrus: you restart the game.
What happens when you don't save Wrex: you restart the game.
What happens when you don't save Tali: you restart the game.
What happens when you don't save Shaperd: you restart the game.

something I like about mass effect: If you play your cards right you get to see you and you're squad transform over the years from a: gunnery cheif/staff Lieutenant, a mercenary, a teen on a journey far from home, an archeologist, a burnt out cop and a commander in the first game to a spectre, the entire krogan race leader, an admiral in the quarian fleet, the GODDAMN shadow broker, a turian general and the savior of organic life in the galaxy in the 3rd game and your series really show how hte players choices affect that

So, I guess in this Scenario Wrex was the leader of Urdnot, until he was killed and Wreave took over.

The Illusive man might not have gotten the notice that Wrex died, and Maellon approached Urdnot when Wrex was still in power.

"What happens if you don't recruit Wrex?" You get kicked out of the fandom, that's what.

"Always was a showoff!"

I love the subtle admission from Wreav that HE couldn't kill the Thresher Maw on foot xD

The Chora's den segment is very complex, multiple ways to meet Wrex, there's an optional cutscene in the bar, and you can get both him and Garrus recruited before finishing the quest, and even get down to C-Sec, then grab Wrex before dealing with Fist AND take him out of the party immediately so you can spare Fist.

Another quest with as much ways about it are the Keepers. You can get hired by either guy and even get ambushed by the salarian after meeting the volus. Sparing them and agreeing to do the quest for both later. Only quests with more resolutions than these Presidium things are in Noveria.

I once tested what happens if you recruit Wrex after doing the Virmire mission. I even helped him recover his family armor. But in Mass effect 2, since he wasn’t present at Virmire the game consider it the same as he was not recruited at all.

I love the thought that Wrex just spends his days in Chora's Den annoyed and waiting for Shepard to come back and then just goes back to Tuchanka after hearing that Virmire's cloning facility was destroyed, only to get bodied by other Krogans
