Garrus is one of my favorite squadmates in the Mass Effect Trilogy. He’s funny, charming and he always has Shepard’s back. Many of my favorite Garrus moments, like shooting bottles on the Presidium, happen in Mass Effect 3.

But what if Garrus were to tragically die during the final mission in Mass Effect 2? Let’s explore some unique dialogue and things that happen when our favorite Turian isn’t by our side to fight the Reapers.

Vakarian’s absence is truly felt during Priority Palaven, the second major mission of the game. We usually link up with our Turian friend during this mission and recruit him as a squadmate for the rest of the campaign.

Some Mass Effect 2 characters are replaced by lesser stand-ins when they die. This is the case for squadmates like Mordin Solus, Grunt and Tali. For Garrus, most of his lines are replaced by General Corinthus and Liara during Priority Palaven.

The biggest change to Priority Palaven occurs halfway through the mission: Joker will radio Shepard and inform him that EDI has gone on the fritz. At this point, Liara usually heads back to the Normandy and we finish the mission with Garrus and James in our squad. But without Garrus, Shepard tells Joker to wait and we finish the mission with Liara and James.

After Priority Tuchanka, Garrus will usually encourage Shepard to get some rest. But if Garrus is dead, then Samantha Traynor will take up this role instead.

So there you have it - what happens if Garrus dies at the end of Mass Effect 2. Man, playing Mass Effect without Garrus is so goddamn depressing.

If Garrus died then you restart ME2 or before the Suicide Mission. Your not allowed to play ME3 without Garrus.

Does anyone else have head cannon that Garrus is Shepard’s XO in ME3. I mean, he’s got leadership experience second only to Shepard. He helps to coordinate the war effort. And Shepard seems to confide in him the most throughout the game. I think it just makes the most sense.
