*My students are learning the right skills? Are you? (No, You aren't)*

ST PATRICK'S DAY sale. Use the code JULY at checkout to get 3 months for $40. That's $14...ish a month. Affordable and real-world.

Stay clear of roles that aren't going to help you. If you want to be a data analyst then I have you covered.

I work in data analytics for a mid-size bank. I've watched plenty of Mike's videos and he is telling you how it is. Listen to him, follow his advice, and you are sure to get a data job. Started as a traveling network technician, got an entry level data analyst job for a hospital, now working as a data analyst for the bank. Thanks Mike for all your hard work and hope you continue to prosper in this awesome field of data.

I want to throw in my 2 cents as someone who does machine learning for a living (but is admittedly very new). I think Mike is correct for the vast majority of machine learning jobs out there, however there are some (in particular in the domain of signal processing, computer vision and, I'm guessing, natural language processing) that do require a fair amount of mathematics. However, we aren't writing our own models either. We use python libraries and frameworks, like SciKitLearn. Math is used for domain knowledge, not modeling. I will also attest that probably 80% of my time is spent cleansing and transforming data (so writing python code), and most of the time we use gradient boosting models. Furthermore, we don't do any of the math by hand (thank God); we have libraries for that too.

Really appreciate the consistency and clarity of your content. Your focus on repeatedly driving home the same important points is truly unique on youtube and is a big reason I always find myself coming back to your channel. Your videos build a mental filter for evading all of the noise and hype which appears so sexy in contrast to SQL and PowerBI. As a recent college grad with math and physics degrees, I cant begin to tell you how helpful this has been in sharpening my focus and adjusting my expectations. Hope you keep up the fantastic work!

Interestingly, I was on Indeed earlier tody and in their section about Data Analysts they give the following bullet point list of the skills needed to pursue a data analyst position:

-A high level of mathematical ability
-Programming languages
-Problem-solving skills
-Time management to meet deadlines
-Accuracy and consistency when preparing reports

I just thought to myself " I wonder what Mike wouldhave to say about lo and behold here we are! 🤣

College is not useless. It is great way to prolong your youth, learn to live without parents and get along with other people in your private area. Also to enjoy some great parties and overall it's fun. For DEV career yeah it is useless, but that's not the point :)

Hi Mike, what all aspects of applied statistics are reqd for an ML engineer? From where can a person learn it?

Thank you so much for your video. I'm doing a computer science undergrad and really want to get into this field, and I have watched a few videos. Do you know if I should minor in Applied Mathematics, or one Statistics. Applied Statistics is not offered, so I don't know which one to choose. What's your opinion?

You should open up your own college and call it the real world

Means we are good in mathematics for machine learning that doesn't mean we will be a great machine learning engineer ?
Means machine learning engineering is far beyond than mathematics ?
Right

Are there any tech jobs that use more math? I enjoy math more than straight up coding
